The Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt composed ‘Canto Ostinato’ in 1979. It is traditionally performed on 4 grand pianos, and bases on a continuous repetition and build-up of the various sections, leading to what is often called a meditative experience. ATELIER LAMBERMONT – run by pianist and sculptor Robert Lambermont (who famously stages Canto with RONDANE quartet, the purest and youngest representatives of Ten Holts’ ouevre) created the smallest possible version of the masterpiece: a hand-operated musicbox. The studio created a layout for the gift packaging: an indulging play of words and typography, reminiscent of a piece of music.
